In "Into the Fire" you are tasked with learning the fate of the Fire Breathers.

After completing "An Ounce of Prevention,"a recording from Dr. Watson will automatically play and ask you to discover if the Fire Breathers(the Responder's elite anti-Scorched unit) still survive.
This quest will take you through the initiation process of becoming a Fire Breather.
Objectives:
- Join the "Fire Breathers."
- Pass the knowledge exam.
- Complete the physical exam.
- Head to the final exam site.
- Activate the emergency beacon.
- Return to Bernie.
- Register with the Fire Breather's computer system.
- Listen to the Priority Message.

Join the "Fire Breathers"
- Travel to the "Charleston Fire Department", located south of the "AVR Medical Center."
- Interact with the registration terminal to begin the Knowledge Exam.
- You must answer all questions correctly to pass the exam - the answers to the questions are located in documents scattered around the Fire Department.
Pass the knowledge exam
- The answers to the questions are:
- The tunnel you're traversing has begun filling up with strange gas... (Evacuate as quickly as possible)
- While traversing a smoke-filled building, your breathing apparatus has failed... (A water-soaked rag)
- One of your fellow Fire Breathers has been burned... (Gently bind the burn with clean bandages)
- While exploring a collapsed mine, your team leader flashes their safety light... (Retreat immediately)
- One of your squadmates has caught a case of Sludge Lung... (1 pt. Purified Water, 2 Ash Rose, 2 Blight, 2 Soot Flower)
- You've stumbled upon a band of Scorch-diseased people brandishing clubs... (Fall back and engage from a distance with firearms)
- You've captured a Scorched-infected man who you recognize... (End his life as mercifully as possible)
Complete the physical exam
- After passing the Knowledge Exam, select "Physical Exam" on the terminal to begin the next step. Travel to the exam location,in the "Charleston Herald" building.
- Interact with the terminal to register for the exam.
- After the preparation countdown ends and the exam begins, hit the first red button next to the terminal marked as"Checkpoint A."
- Then, sprint to the second button, located across town near the "Capitol Building" (with the gold dome). Follow the signposts to help find your way.
- Hit the second button marked as"Checkpoint B." After hitting the button, return to "Checkpoint A" before the timer ends in order to pass the exam.
- Interact with the terminal to begin the Final Exam.
Head to the final exam site -We are have received reports that the game maycrashon Xbox Onewhen entering the Belching Betty Mine. We have reported this to the developers. - Travel to "Belching Betty,"located south of the "Charleston Fire Department."
- Talk to Bernie (the Protectron located there).
- Collect your Fire Breather equipment from the nearby vending machine.
- Listen to the "Fire Breathers Final Exam Briefing" holotape.
- Tip:Make sure to equip your Fire Breather helmet! It will protect you from the toxic smoke inside of the mine.
Activate the emergency beacon.
- Fight through the Scorched to reach the bottom of the mine and "Activate" the Emergency Beacon.
- Warning: After activating the beacon, any Scorched that are still alive inside of the mine will be alerted to your presence.
Return to Bernie
- After activating the beacon, return to Bernie outside of the mine to complete this portion of the exam
Register with the Fire Breather's computer system
- Return to the "Charleston Fire Department" to complete your registration.
Listen to the Priority Message
- "Activate" the red button next to the trading post to listen to the priority message.
- This will complete the quest and automatically begin "The Missing Link".
